Role Overview

LRS is seeking a WordPress Developer for a 6-month contract supporting a client project in Central Illinois. The role focuses on building custom WordPress themes and plugins, delivering high-performance websites, and integrating third-party services.

Responsibilities

• Build custom WordPress themes and plugins using PHP (lightweight, maintainable, scalable)
• Create custom blocks for the WordPress Block Editor
• Integrate WordPress with third-party services via REST APIs (e.g., CRMs, payment gateways, marketing automation)
• Perform site audits to improve load speed, Core Web Vitals, and SEO health
• Troubleshoot plugin conflicts and handle WordPress core updates
• Implement security best practices to reduce website vulnerabilities
• Collaborate with project teams on delivery and ongoing site maintenance/optimization

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional WordPress development experience
• Proficiency in PHP and MySQL
• Strong understanding of the WordPress core (hooks, actions, filters, template hierarchy)
• Experience with Git
• Experience with local development environments such as LocalWP or Docker
• Ability to troubleshoot complex issues
• English communication skills (written and verbal)
• Permanent authorization to work in the USA

Nice to Have

• Experience with headless WordPress architectures
• WCAG accessibility knowledge
• Familiarity with automated testing and/or CI/CD pipelines

Contract & Location/Remote

• 6-month contract
• Remote work is supported within the United States
