Role overview

Werkstudent*in (Student Assistant) in Klimafreundliche Schifffahrt und Häfen supporting the design, implementation, and monitoring of public strategies and measures for climate-friendly shipping and ports.

Responsibilities

• Support market, potential, and environmental analyses and the evaluation of technology options and business models for climate-friendly shipping and ports.
• Support the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the National Action Plan for climate-friendly shipping, including the measures program and individual measure rollouts in the context of the National Port Strategy.
• Assist with tendering and procurement procedures, content-related support for external assignments, and preparation of documents for clients.
• Provide support for technical advisory work related to the further development of regulations and standards for alternative ship propulsion and fuels.
• Support the design and implementation of funding/financing measures in the climate-friendly shipping and ports domain.
• Contribute to networking in working groups with authorities, industry, academia and/or associations, and support communications and public outreach (including event, meeting, and workshop preparation).

Requirements

• Currently studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in natural sciences or engineering (e.g., mechanical/plant engineering, propulsion engineering, ship technology, transport systems, economic engineering, logistics/transport, economics, political science, or similar).
• First practical experience via internships (industry, service companies, industry associations, public administration, or research institutions).
• Ideally, knowledge of the maritime economy (shipping, shipbuilding, supplier industry, port economics) and understanding of alternative propulsion and fuel infrastructure.
• Ideally, familiarity with funding programs/projects and networking with authorities, industry, academia and/or associations.
• Team-oriented, resilient, reliable, and engaged.
• Good English skills.
• Strong skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Alignment with NOW’s strategy for sustainable mobility and motivation to actively help implement it.
