Role Overview

WordPress Web Developer (Enterprise Scale)

Fully remote for US-based candidates. This is a 12-month contract with possible extension or conversion, working full-time (40 hours/week).

Responsibilities

Maintain and improve large-scale WordPress site features using JavaScript and PHP
Build, modify, and update WordPress plugins and themes (including bug fixes)
Collaborate with stakeholders to turn requirements into robust technical solutions
Improve responsiveness, optimize performance, and troubleshoot technical issues
Participate in code reviews and write/update documentation while following secure coding standards
Follow an AI-first development workflow using modern AI-powered toolsets to accelerate delivery

Requirements

5+ years developing WordPress sites or applications with PHP and JavaScript
Direct experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch
Proficiency in HTML/CSS and knowledge of web best practices (including accessibility and maintainability)
Familiarity with WordPress architecture: hooks, PHP APIs, block editor, and REST API
Strong analytical skills and ability to manage tasks independently in high-pressure environments
Clear communication with both technical and non-technical teams

Must-Have Skills

Enterprise WordPress engineering at scale
Strong core web development (modern PHP + JavaScript practices)
Security-minded development and proficiency with an AI-first workflow

Nice to Have

WordPress VIP experience
Enterprise/at-scale WordPress background (e.g., big brands, media)
AI tool familiarity, especially Claude and DevMate
