Web Developer, Headless CMS Migration Lead (Contentful / Next.js)

Role overview

Lead a headless CMS migration for a large-scale website, moving content from WordPress to Contentful. You will build a Next.js (standalone) application and a migration toolchain while coordinating with engineering, SEO, and content stakeholders on a phased production cutover.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement a new Contentful content model for:
  • Articles, landing pages, taxonomies, authors
  • Reusable CTAs
  • A polymorphic block model
• Build migration tooling to move from WordPress to Contentful, including:
  • Content, media, taxonomies, redirects
  • Idempotent and re-runnable scripts
• Implement runtime modules for migration-era SEO and publishing support:
  • SEO + structured data
  • Sitemaps, hreflang
  • Redirect middleware
  • Contentful Preview
• Preserve migration-critical SEO and URL behavior:
  • URLs, structured data, sitemap structure, and SEO equity
• Plan and execute a phased cutover:
  • Dress rehearsal
  • Authoring freeze
  • Locale-by-locale flip
• Own go/no-go decision signals at each phase gate with stakeholder sign-off (engineering, SEO, content)
• Train in-house authors on the new Contentful editing experience
• Decommission WordPress and remove WordPress code paths after the rollback retention window

Requirements

• Production-quality TypeScript and Node.js for both application code and data tooling
• Strong testing discipline, especially for data transformation logic (Vitest or equivalent)
• Familiarity with Contentful APIs and integrations:
  • Content Management API
  • Delivery API
  • Preview API
  • Webhooks
• Comfortable with feature flags, Vercel Edge Config, and reducing production blast radius
• Equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related) or equivalent professional experience

Contract details

• Remote, embedded with the in-house Web Development team in Marketing
• Contract duration: ~3–4 months of active build, plus a multi-week rollback retention window
