About the role
Role Overview
Design and develop user-centered digital experiences for federal agencies. The Web Designer creates wireframes, page layouts, visual assets, and prototypes that support government websites and campaign platforms—ensuring usability, responsiveness, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop web page layouts, wireframes, and prototypes (e.g., in Figma or Adobe XD)
- Create and optimize web visual assets with responsiveness and accessibility compliance
- Apply USWDS components and federal design standards for consistency and usability
- Collaborate with developers, communications/content specialists, and stakeholders to implement and refine designs
- Analyze web metrics and user feedback to improve layout, navigation, and content presentation
- Ensure designs meet Section 508 accessibility standards and federal usability guidelines
- Maintain visual branding consistency and adhere to agency-specific guidelines
- Stay current on web design trends, tools, and federal standards
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, HCI, or related field
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in web/digital design
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Adobe XD, or similar design tools
- Strong understanding of web standards, responsive design, and accessibility requirements
- Excellent visual communication and UI design skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Nice-to-haves
- Experience designing for federal/public sector websites
- Basic knowledge of web development
