About the role

Role overview

You will design scalable, high-availability services and cross-team solutions spanning frontend, backend, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, develop, integrate, deliver, and support high-quality software.
  • Serve as technical expert in at least one area, with strong knowledge of broader system architecture.
  • Influence team direction for resolving, diagnosing, and monitoring systems and platforms.
  • Identify team pain points and implement innovative technical solutions.
  • Design and guide feature design/implementation for the entire team and deliver cross-team initiatives.
  • Participate in cross-business technical reviews.
  • Build and maintain Tax Provision features end-to-end, including:
    • React microfrontend screens
    • TypeScript serverless AWS Lambdas
    • Fastify services
    • NestJS applications supporting ASC 740 corporate tax provision calculations
  • Use AI coding assistants effectively (write precise prompts, critically review AI-generated code, and apply outputs within a large multi-repo codebase).
  • Write and maintain automated tests: unit, integration, E2E, and performance.
  • Collaborate with architects/product teams to evolve async job patterns (imports, report generation), calculation service APIs, data layer abstractions, and observability.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain infrastructure using Terraform and AWS SAM (AWS services including Lambda, ECS, API Gateway, RDS/PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront, Secrets Manager, Route 53, WAF).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of software development experience building commercial applications with modern engineering practices.
  • Production-level ability to complete tasks quickly and efficiently.
  • Experience owning large project deliverables (independently and collaboratively).
  • Track record reducing complexity across projects/services/processes to increase output.
  • Demonstrated influence/thought leadership across the full software development life cycle of distributed teams using Agile/Scrum and DevSecOps.
  • Strong expertise in cloud technologies and architectures: AWS, Serverless, Event-Driven Architecture, SOA, Microservices, Microfrontend, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Strong TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js 18+) for APIs, Lambdas, business logic, and tooling.

Nice to have / specific tech strengths

  • React 18 and modern React patterns (hooks, context, query management).
  • NestJS with module-based architecture, TypeORM, JWT auth, Swagger.
  • PostgreSQL (schema management, query optimization, stored procedures, TypeORM migrations).
  • Microfrontend composition patterns (e.g., single-spa).
  • MobX / MobX-State-Tree and TanStack React Query.
  • GitLab CI/CD (pipelines, shared templates, environment management, security scan integration).
  • Observability: OpenTelemetry and Grafana Faro.
  • AI coding tools: Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or equivalent.
  • Testing/tools: Jest, Playwright, k6.
  • Terraform (AWS infrastructure modules).
