Role Overview

KellyMitchell’s client is seeking a UX/UI Senior Design Systems Designer to join a team working on a scalable design system. The role is remote and focuses on building and maintaining tokens and components, ensuring system consistency, and partnering closely with engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain design tokens for: color, spacing, typography, radius, opacity, elevation, and overlays.
  • Create scalable, reusable components and modules following atomic methodology.
  • Translate brand and functional UI designs into systemized variables and repeatable logic.
  • Implement and maintain variable modes and component variants.
  • Identify, document, and fix design debt and inconsistencies via audits.
  • Partner with engineering on naming conventions, token ingestion, and handoff precision.
  • Run visual QA for system-level components to ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
  • Support intake of new components through product-team submissions, module reviews, and adoption across cross-functional teams (including data science).
  • Participate in design system sprint cycles: grooming to retrospectives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years professional experience in product/UI/UX design.
  • 2+ years focused specifically on building design systems.
  • Expert Figma knowledge: variables, libraries, variants, auto layout, and ability to debug naming logic and avoid file bloat.
  • Deep knowledge of design tokens, semantic layers, and component modularity best practices.
  • Experience building design systems at scale for B2C apps, e-commerce, or platform teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to move fast and ship tokens/components/systems confidently.
  • Solid understanding of front-end implementation and developer handoff.
  • Detail-oriented approach to naming, structure, and documentation.
  • Clear communicator who can collaborate across design, engineering, and product.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with token tooling such as Token Studio and Style Dictionary (or similar pipelines).
  • Experience contributing to design system documentation.
  • Experience supporting multi-brand or multi-platform design systems.
  • Enterprise design system work in QSR, retail, or other high-growth digital contexts.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Approx. pay range: $130,000–$140,000 (annual).
  • Benefits include Medical, Dental & Vision insurance.
  • Employee-Owned Profit Sharing (ESOP) and 401K.
