About the role
Role Overview
KellyMitchell’s client is seeking a UX/UI Senior Design Systems Designer to join a team working on a scalable design system. The role is remote and focuses on building and maintaining tokens and components, ensuring system consistency, and partnering closely with engineering.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain design tokens for: color, spacing, typography, radius, opacity, elevation, and overlays.
- Create scalable, reusable components and modules following atomic methodology.
- Translate brand and functional UI designs into systemized variables and repeatable logic.
- Implement and maintain variable modes and component variants.
- Identify, document, and fix design debt and inconsistencies via audits.
- Partner with engineering on naming conventions, token ingestion, and handoff precision.
- Run visual QA for system-level components to ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
- Support intake of new components through product-team submissions, module reviews, and adoption across cross-functional teams (including data science).
- Participate in design system sprint cycles: grooming to retrospectives.
Requirements
- 5+ years professional experience in product/UI/UX design.
- 2+ years focused specifically on building design systems.
- Expert Figma knowledge: variables, libraries, variants, auto layout, and ability to debug naming logic and avoid file bloat.
- Deep knowledge of design tokens, semantic layers, and component modularity best practices.
- Experience building design systems at scale for B2C apps, e-commerce, or platform teams.
- Demonstrated ability to move fast and ship tokens/components/systems confidently.
- Solid understanding of front-end implementation and developer handoff.
- Detail-oriented approach to naming, structure, and documentation.
- Clear communicator who can collaborate across design, engineering, and product.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with token tooling such as Token Studio and Style Dictionary (or similar pipelines).
- Experience contributing to design system documentation.
- Experience supporting multi-brand or multi-platform design systems.
- Enterprise design system work in QSR, retail, or other high-growth digital contexts.
Compensation & Benefits
- Approx. pay range: $130,000–$140,000 (annual).
