About the role
Role Overview
Senior UX/UI Designer (Remote, US) working with an established UX/UI team at Smile Digital Health. You will lead user research and translate findings into flows, journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes, partnering closely with front-end development to take designs through to code.
Responsibilities
- User Research (Lead/Participate): Conduct qualitative and quantitative research (interviews, surveys, usability approaches) and synthesize insights into actionable design requirements.
- Solution & Discovery: Lead and participate in discovery sessions; evaluate user requirements with product owners, project managers, business leads, and customer success.
- End-to-End Product UX: Drive UX projects through product development phases—ship and iterate.
- Design Artifacts: Create and illustrate ideas with mockups, storyboards, process flows, sitemaps, wireframes, and prototypes.
- Workflows & Navigation: Build complex workflows, navigation models, and user flows.
- UX Strategy: Use analytics and a strategic lens to identify trends and recommend improvements to user experience.
- UX Process & Framework: Contribute to UX processes and maintain Smile’s in-house UX Style Framework, ensuring consistent application across projects.
- Customer Advocacy: Translate business needs and technical constraints into user-centered designs; advocate for design thinking.
- Validation & Accessibility: Validate flows and prototypes with end-users/user proxies; design inclusive experiences aligned with accessibility best practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years experience as a UX/UI Designer (or similar role); post-secondary education preferred.
- Experience working in an Agile Scrum team.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating meaningful, user-centered experience design.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to turn ideas into clear UX solutions.
- Excellent communication; familiarity with standard design methodologies.
- Proven visual design skills (clear visual hierarchies).
- Knowledge of qualitative UX methods (e.g., usability testing, remote testing) and when to use them.
- Familiarity with interaction design and information architecture.
- Highly proficient in Figma, including components/design systems, variables, and interactive prototyping.
- Significant experience building and maintaining design systems.
- Experience with user research and research methodologies.
