SPEX is seeking a UX Strategy Lead Intern to work directly with the Director of UX. This is a leadership, strategy, and team coordination role focused on organizing UX initiatives, guiding product direction, reviewing work, and mentoring the UX team. Hands-on design is optional—regular production design is not required, though strong UX knowledge is essential.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Director of UX to help guide UX strategy, product features, team priorities, and project direction
- Plan UX sprints, assign tasks, track progress, and identify risks/blockers
- Run UX team rituals: daily standups, design syncs, critiques, and planning sessions
- Review UX/UI work and provide clear, constructive, actionable feedback
- Coordinate and support UX designers, UX researchers, and other contributors
- Mentor junior designers and help team members apply UX methods and make design decisions
- Maintain consistency across prototypes, product areas, design systems, and UX documentation
- Review assets in Figma (files, user flows, interaction patterns, prototypes, specifications)
- Support usability testing and research planning; help integrate research into product decisions
- Write/maintain UX requirements, process documentation, project plans, and design notes
- Collaborate with development, product, marketing, leadership, and other cross-functional teams
- Present UX work, recommendations, and progress to stakeholders
- Onboard UX team members and support UX team processes
- Make time-sensitive UX decisions when the Director of UX is unavailable
- Gradually take on more ownership and decision-making authority over time
Required qualifications
- Experience contributing to more than one UX project
- Experience working on at least one real-world project outside coursework
- A professional UX/product design portfolio
- Strong knowledge of UX strategy, interaction design, user-centered design, and product thinking
- Strong Figma skills (review/inspect designs and provide feedback)
- Knowledge of design systems, accessibility, UX research, and usability principles
- Ability to evaluate user flows, prototypes, interfaces, and product requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Internship details
- Remote (US residents only)
- 20 hours/week
- Three-month unpaid internship with the opportunity to extend
- Academic credit may be available
