About the role

Role Overview

ICF is seeking a UX Researcher (Remote) to support clients in the federal government domain. Embedded in projects focused on federal healthcare IT (e.g., HHS and CMS), you will help understand and advocate for end users to inform product and design decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the UX vision and strategy aligned with project business objectives.
  • Collaborate to create research questions, hypotheses, and methods and execute research plans.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research (e.g., user interviews, surveys) and synthesize findings (including secondary research).
  • Develop personas and translate insights into compelling stories and actionable recommendations.
  • Validate ideas through user testing, rapid testing, concept validation, and usability research.
  • Support iteration by testing for usability and accessibility, running feedback sessions, and conducting related research.
  • Communicate results clearly and objectively using data to illustrate user needs and outcomes.

Requirements (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years of applied UX research experience in the software industry
  • Ability to provide 1+ case studies showing your research process and deliverables
  • Must reside in the US, be authorized to work in the US, and perform work in the US
  • Must have been resident in the US for 3 of the last 5 years
  • Must be eligible for public trust

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in psychology, HCI, human factors, or related field
  • 10+ years overall professional experience
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 Level AA / Section 508 compliance
  • Experience in federal contracting or healthcare IT
  • Active/past clearance to work with CMS or HHS

Key Skills

  • Research ethics and bias control (e.g., informed consent, PII handling, NDAs)
  • Strong usability and accessibility knowledge (heuristic/expert methods)
  • Expertise in at least one research branch (qualitative, quantitative, or design-based)
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional, distributed remote teams
