About the role
Role overview
As a UX Researcher in IBM Software, you will plan and conduct user research across both generative (exploratory) and evaluative (usability testing) phases to uncover user needs and drive actionable product insights.
Responsibilities
- Define research objectives and create end-to-end research plans for generative and evaluative studies.
- Recruit and screen participants to match target user personas and segments.
- Conduct research using methods such as:
- semi-structured interviews
- concept testing
- card sorting
- surveys
- diary studies
- ethnographic field research
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify pain points, behavioral patterns, and opportunities.
- Communicate findings by creating stories, personas, user journey maps, and design recommendations.
Requirements
- 4+ years of dedicated experience as a UX Researcher / Product Researcher in a digital product environment.
- Strong portfolio covering both:
- qualitative research (e.g., interviews, usability testing)
- quantitative research (e.g., surveys, basic behavioral analytics)
- Exceptional storytelling, presentation, and written communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to manage stakeholders in an agile environment.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in HCI, Psychology, Anthropology, Cognitive Science, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have
- Master’s or PhD in a related HCI/human behavior field.
- Experience with UX research operations (e.g., participant recruitment databases, research repositories, best practices).
- Experience with AI-driven UX research tools and sound judgment about where AI should (and shouldn’t) be used.
- Ability to leverage existing resources (customer sentiment, feedback repositories, support tickets) for new insights.
- Familiarity with frameworks such as Jobs to Be Done, personas, and Critical User Journeys.
- Experience with tools like UserTesting, UserZoom, Qualtrics, and Mural.
