UX Research Engagement Lead, (Senior Consultant, Business & Product Delivery)

Role Overview

UX Research Engagement Lead (Senior Consultant, Business & Product Delivery) at Fearless. Lead discovery research for a state government permitting reform initiative as the engagement lead and primary client point of contact. You will document real-world permitting workflows across multiple state agencies, identify where systems fail users, and turn field research into evidence-based recommendations for modernization decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end discovery research strategy across two parallel tracks covering permitting workflows at multiple state agencies.
• Conduct contextual inquiry and observational research at government work sites to understand how processes operate vs. how they are intended to work.
• Facilitate stakeholder interviews and workshops with government staff, municipal agencies, licensed professionals, and residents.
• Synthesize findings into deliverables such as:
  • Service blueprints
  • Process maps
  • Functional requirements
  • Executive reports
• Validate findings with participants before final submission to ensure documentation accurately reflects real workflows.
• Translate complex workflows into clear narratives and visual artifacts that support procurement, technical teams, and executive leadership.
• Coordinate closely with the client Product Owner to adapt research plans as patterns emerge and provide ongoing progress updates.
• Ensure deliverables meet the Quality Assurance Surveillance Plan (QASP) by tracing findings back to primary research evidence and maintaining methodological rigor.

Work Location & Travel

• Fully remote with flexibility to work from any location.
• Travel required to customer sites for in-person research sessions (contextual inquiry, shadowing, workshops).
• Must be available 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern Time for coordination with the client Product Owner.
