About the role
Role Overview
Grant Street Group is hiring a UX Research & Design Lead to lead and grow its UX team while staying hands-on as a credible player-coach. The role owns day-to-day UX operations and helps shift UX work from reactive “band-aid” fixes toward research-informed, strategic improvements that support long-term product strategy.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the UX team
- Serve as the operations lead for UX researchers/designers (performance assessment, feedback, coaching, career growth).
- Own team building: staffing planning, hiring and onboarding, and evolving team structure and roles.
- Strengthen UX operations and process
- Design and refine lightweight, practical UX processes for GSG’s culture and product lifecycles, including:
- intake and triage/prioritization across products
- research planning
- design reviews
- documentation
- Clarify UX partnership across the product lifecycle—from problem framing and research through design, development, testing, and iteration.

- Raise product UX quality and consistency
- Set and uphold a practical bar for UX quality across usability, accessibility, consistency, and design rationale.
- Partner to evolve design systems and shared UI components, moving toward a more centralized rollout model.
- Work with Product and Tech leaders to embed accessibility expectations into everyday development (accessibility as shared responsibility).
- Help the team navigate AI and new tools
- Encourage thoughtful experimentation with AI-assisted tools for activities such as research synthesis, content/design exploration, while maintaining appropriate judgment.
Requirements
- Experienced UX practitioner with a strong track record of leading UX teams.
- Enjoys combining UX research and design to solve complex problems.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, improve processes, and build healthy collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to guide UX from reactive work toward more strategic, research-informed improvements.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience modernizing legacy experiences while extending newer ones.
- Experience with design systems and consistent UI component practices.
- Familiarity with using AI as a design/research partner in an ethical, value-driven way.
