About the role

Role Overview

You will own the user experience for PressW’s healthcare scheduling platform rebuild (codename Phoenix), reporting to Engineering Leadership. The platform supports hundreds of thousands of workers via mobile and web, plus an admin interface used by 1,000+ healthcare facilities.

This role begins before any frontend code—your first months are heavily focused on research and discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead platform audit and customer research (Phases 0–2):
    • Audit existing workflows, pain points, and user patterns.
    • Work with the client’s product and customer success teams to understand what needs to change and why.
  • Provide UX input to backend migrations (Phase 3):
    • Ensure REST API shapes align with how users actually work (not just database structure).
  • Design the end-to-end UX across two frontend batches:
    • Worker-facing: schedule viewing, shift pickup, messaging, push notifications.
    • Admin-facing: template management, schedule building, reporting, compliance (key driver of NPS improvements).
  • Build and maintain UX foundations:
    • Design system and component library.
    • Accessibility patterns targeting WCAG 2.1 AA, responsive design, and cross-platform consistency (web + mobile).
  • Create design artifacts: wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Validate with users: usability testing before and during rollout.
  • Iterate during rollout: synthesize wave rollout feedback with real users and update designs.
  • Communication: present research findings and design decisions in weekly UX reviews with the Frontend Lead and client product team.

Requirements

  • Strong UX design experience for both web and mobile applications.
  • Experience conducting user research and translating insights into product design decisions.
  • Experience designing for complex, workflow-heavy applications.
