UX Design Systems Lead

Role overview

Lead the strategy, governance, and adoption of a modern platform design system for a large-scale digital platform. You’ll partner across UX, engineering, product, and accessibility teams to enable consistent, scalable, and accessible digital experiences.

Location & contract

• Remote or Hybrid (multiple U.S. locations)
• Hybrid preference: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote
• Locations: Vienna, VA; Winchester, VA; Pensacola, FL; San Diego, CA
• Contract: 6+ month with high likelihood of extension

Responsibilities

• Own platform-level design system strategy, governance, and adoption
• Drive consistency across design tokens, components, patterns, and documentation
• Improve design-to-development workflows with UX, Engineering, Product, and Accessibility
• Collaborate on CI/CD, release processes, component libraries, and documentation standards
• Create and maintain documentation using Storybook, Zeroheight, and Figma
• Conduct design system audits and identify opportunities to improve quality, accessibility, and adoption

Requirements

• 5+ years in Design Systems, Product Design, Design Operations, Front-End Engineering, or related
• Experience leading/scaling design systems for enterprise or large digital platforms
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript/TypeScript and React or Vue
• Strong understanding of design tokens, component libraries, theming, and design system governance
• Experience with Figma, Storybook, or Zeroheight
• Knowledge of CI/CD, versioning, documentation workflows, and accessibility (WCAG)
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration

• Front-end prototyping and component implementation
• Mobile/cross-platform design systems (React Native, SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose)
• Accessibility audits, design operations, and/or open-source design system contributions
