Role Overview

User Interface Architect for a web application (internet/intranet), with remote work from Davidson, NC. The position requires hands-on UI leadership and deep experience in server-side rendered UI using HTMX and the Node.js/Express ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Define the UI strategy for an existing web application (internet/intranet).
  • Analyze business needs and produce detailed wireframes aligned to strategic objectives.
  • Gather and document user experience requirements for website redesign.
  • Create and maintain information architecture and reusable design interfaces/solutions.
  • Develop user flows and personas for feature design.
  • Prepare a roadmap for new features and UX-related enhancements.
  • Lead cross-functional design sessions between IT and Business teams.
  • Coordinate with an offshore team for UI/UX development and maintenance.
  • Establish processes for periodic reviews of UI/UX artifacts.
  • Present and justify mockups and propose UI/UX standards/best practices.
  • Maintain SSR architecture patterns and component libraries (notably for an e-commerce platform).
  • Build interactive features with HTMX (e.g., cart updates, type-ahead search, modals, drawers).
  • Develop Express.js routes/middleware and integrate with backend APIs.
  • Define coding standards, run code reviews, and mentor the development team.
  • Collaborate with UX designers, backend teams, and offshore developers.
  • Optimize performance via caching, asset versioning, and CDN strategies.
  • Document architecture decisions, component APIs, and deployment procedures.
  • Monitor production issues, perform security audits, and implement quality processes.
  • Stay current with HTMX, Node.js, and web performance best practices.

Requirements

  • 12+ years experience.
  • Hands-on proficiency with front-end frameworks and tools: JavaScript, HTMX, ReactJS, Redux, Redux-Saga, Babel, Webpack, Tailwind CSS, CSS, HTML.
  • Strong experience building server-side rendered web applications using HTMX, Node.js, and Express.js.
  • Strong Node.js framework understanding for handling web UI requests.
  • Expert-level vanilla JavaScript (ES6+): modules, async/await, template literals, DOM manipulation.
  • Ability to transform UI/UX designs into scalable, dynamic, responsive web pages.
  • Proficiency with Tailwind CSS for responsive, mobile-first design.
  • Experience with Webpack, Babel, Nginx, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Define/maintain SSR architecture patterns and component libraries.

Nice to Have

  • E-commerce platform experience (cart, checkout, product pages, search).
  • Performance optimization using Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals, plus CDN strategies.
  • Jest testing, ESLint, WCAG accessibility compliance.
  • Redis caching, API integration, cookie-based authentication.
  • Security best practices: XSS prevention, JWT, input sanitization.
  • Google Cloud Platform, Adobe Target, Winston logging.
