About the role

Role Overview

The organization is seeking a User Experience Researcher on a contract basis. This is a remote role based in Milwaukee or New York, NY, partnering with product, design, and development teams to advocate for user needs and generate actionable UX insights.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product, design, and development to advocate for user needs, pain points, and behaviors.
  • Understand stakeholder research needs and select appropriate research methodologies.
  • Execute end-to-end UX research (kickoff → recruitment/fielding → interviews → analysis → findings presentation).
  • Create UX research artifacts such as:
    • research proposals
    • moderator guides
    • results summaries
  • Synthesize findings into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Identify and execute additional research opportunities that add value.
  • Recruit and maintain participant pools (internal and external sources).
  • Launch and analyze surveys, and support UX research reporting across product areas.
  • Serve as an internal SME for user behavior and research insights.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of formal UX research experience.
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills.
  • Experience with:
    • usability studies
    • user interviews
    • ethnographic research
    • benchmarking, focus groups, and surveys
  • Strong skills in research analysis and report writing.
  • Experience supporting full-cycle product development through UX research.
  • Strong communication skills presenting findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Practical knowledge of statistics and data interpretation.
  • Hands-on experience with UX research tools:
    • OptimalSort, UserZoom, UserTesting
  • Survey tools experience:
    • Qualtrics or SurveyMonkey
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially PowerPoint and Outlook) and Slack.
  • Ability to work autonomously in ambiguous environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in HCI, Psychology, Human Factors, Social Sciences, Library Science, or related field (or a Bachelor’s with extensive relevant experience).
  • Strong psychology/human behavior background.
  • Experience with large-scale ethnographic research and usability-focused studies.
