About the role
Role
User Experience (UX) Designer for a remote role with an initial onsite requirement.
Location: Remote / NYC area (and surrounding areas), Charlotte, San Antonio, DC, Irvine
Contract: 5 months+ (no travel; onsite for the first week)
Responsibilities
- Audit existing user experiences to understand the current state, uncover pain points, and align to product goals and technical constraints.
- Advocate for users throughout the design process and ensure solutions meet real user needs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product managers, developers, compliance, accessibility experts) to meet business and regulatory requirements.
- Create and refine wireframes, prototypes, and visual assets; communicate concepts clearly to stakeholders.
- Apply and support user research to inform decisions, validate concepts, and iterate based on feedback.
- Ensure usability and consistency using existing design systems, design pattern research, and accessibility considerations.
- Gather stakeholder/peer/user feedback and iterate to improve design quality.
- Prepare development handoff materials (documentation, annotations, accessibility considerations).
- Participate in design reviews/walkthroughs and update designs during development as needed.
- Track and evaluate post-launch design performance using data and feedback.
- Lead design efforts on moderately complex projects with minimal supervision.
- Drive cross-platform UX (mobile, web, voice) and keep experiences consistent across channels.
- Lead or facilitate design sprints, design strategy, concepting, and definition activities.
UX Strategy & Methods
- Deliver artifacts and facilitate:
- Service design blueprinting
- Journey mapping
- User flow mapping
- Other UX methods
Collaboration & Design Leadership
- Provide constructive design feedback and set an example during critiques.
- Influence product strategy by aligning design decisions with measurable business outcomes.
- Partner closely with Product Managers and Product Owners as a leading voice for user needs.
- Collaborate with design systems teams on design system updates and implementation.
- Lead/enable UX “Chapter” processes and best practices within product teams.
AI-Assisted Design
- Adopt AI-assisted design tools to improve design efficiency and innovation.
Requirements
- Experience auditing and improving UX across product experiences.
- Ability to design across multiple interfaces (mobile/web/voice) with strong accessibility standards.
- Experience producing UX artifacts for development handoff, including accessibility considerations.
- Ability to lead design sprints and UX strategy/concepting activities.
Nice-to-haves (implied)
- Familiarity with design systems and contributions to their enhancement and adoption.
- Experience using or incorporating research and performance data to iterate post-launch.
- Experience influencing roadmaps through user-centered design leadership.
