Usability Researcher

Role Overview

You will work on a team focused on improving the user experience for Copilot in the Office apps (Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). The role involves designing and executing research strategies to ensure Copilot features deliver high-quality, end-user experiences for a diverse set of people.

Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and run usability/user research studies end-to-end (including owning a study in ~1–2 weeks).
• Collect, synthesize, and report findings from quantitative and qualitative data.
• Conduct competitive analysis and identify user experience opportunities.
• Collaborate with user research, design, product management, marketing, applied science, and engineering to drive product improvements.
• Define and evaluate data collection methods (e.g., surveys, interviews, unmoderated testing).
• Provide clear, actionable research insights to product teams.

Requirements

• Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Psychology, or related field (Masters/PhD preferred).
• Mixed-methods experience across both qualitative and quantitative research.
• Ability to communicate research insights with clarity and actionability.
• Ability to work with agility in fast-moving timelines and drive studies quickly.
• Experience working with AI for productivity/research, with the ability to verify outputs and craft effective prompts.
• Strong comfort with MS Excel and understanding complex technical outputs.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience using AI specifically for research workflows (beyond generic tool use).
