Usability Researcher

Role Overview

Usability Researcher (3) in a UX Research team focused on evaluating and improving the user experience for the Microsoft 365 product line. You’ll support UX research efforts for Excel and Copilot, including how the team evaluates Excel Copilot experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute and manage multiple concurrent UX research projects evaluating Excel and Copilot vs. competitors
• Conduct quick-turn qualitative and mixed-methods research to generate insights for Excel and Copilot
• Analyze and synthesize diverse data sources, prioritize findings, and produce clear, actionable reports with strong visual communication
• Build and manage a UX research pipeline, ensuring studies run efficiently and at scale
• Partner with external research vendors to help screen and recruit participants; run rapid studies across short-term and expanded portfolio work

Requirements (Disqualifiers / Must-haves)

• Strong project management experience (must be demonstrated in interviews)
• Demonstrated UX benchmarking experience (or equivalent) via experience or interview
• Solid statistical skills
• Ability to work with remote UX research tools
• Strong collaboration/partnering and teamwork skills
• Strong behavioral interview performance, especially around:
  • taking direction
  • problem-solving
  • making tradeoffs
• Mixed-methods experience required:
  • Quant-heavy candidates must also provide qualitative interpretation
  • Qual-heavy candidates must have quantitative experience
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous, rapidly changing environments
• Interest/experience working with AI tools
• Background in HCDE, Psychology, Statistics, or Data Science is preferred; Master’s preferred (Bachelor’s may be acceptable if fit is strong)

Nice-to-haves

• Direct experience running UX benchmarks in fast-paced, ambiguous, competitive research environments
• Strong stakeholder partnership skills across multiple roles and functions
