About the role

Role Overview

The Junior UI/UX & Visual Designer will shape the visual identity and UI/UX strategy across federal and commercial accounts. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create engaging, user-centered designs aligned with project goals and stakeholder requirements, including work connected to emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement visual design and UI/UX strategies aligned with project goals
Ideate and craft solutions that meet user needs and stakeholder expectations
Create iterative wireframes and clickable prototypes for multiple applications
Produce responsive designs adaptable to different platforms and screen sizes
Develop user personas, journey maps, and content flows to improve user experience
Organize and maintain design documentation (e.g., style guides and design libraries)
Present design concepts and solutions to teams, clients, and stakeholders
Deliver high-quality design artifacts in formats needed for development and project use
Stay current on UX/design trends and integrate best practices
Collaborate with UX teams, developers, and stakeholders using Human-Centered Design principles
Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and reviews
Help ensure accurate capture of user stories and acceptance criteria
Engage in continuous learning to improve design skills and outcomes

Qualifications

2+ years of professional UI/UX and visual design experience
Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma
Strong portfolio demonstrating Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles
Experience working within Agile frameworks
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to create detailed wireframes, prototypes, and responsive designs
Experience creating user personas, journey maps, and content flows
Strong organizational skills for version control and documentation
Self-motivated; able to prioritize and manage tasks independently
Experience designing for multiple platforms and device sizes

Nice to Haves / Context

Experience with designs related to emerging technologies (e.g., identity intelligence, immersive tech, AI/ML, virtualization, AR, digital transformation)

Work Location / Remote Policy

Candidates outside the DC/MD/VA metro area may work fully remote
Local candidates should be willing to adopt a hybrid schedule in Reston, VA
