UI/UX Product Designer (Los Angeles)

Role Overview

Design-led UI/UX Product Designer to join Ruca’s US Studio in a 3-month, full-time contract with the goal of converting to a permanent member of the product design team. The role focuses on user thinking, interaction and interface detail, and using AI tools as a native part of the design workflow.

Responsibilities

• Apply UX fundamentals: user research, information architecture, interaction design, and usability
• Use AI-assisted tools to speed up research synthesis, ideation, rapid prototyping, and design iteration
• Partner with clients, product managers, and engineers to deliver clear, usable design solutions
• Design responsive, mobile-first interfaces across platforms
• Build and maintain scalable UI systems and reusable components
• Create design systems in Figma (variables, components, and libraries)
• Produce mockups and prototypes that communicate interaction patterns and design logic
• Maintain visual consistency (layout, color, typography, interaction)
• Present work, gather feedback, and iterate quickly
• Apply design rigor to visual output across channels (web, mobile, email, social, print, presentations, pitch decks) with brand consistency
• Design marketing materials that support business goals

Requirements

• Strong foundational UI/UX and product design skills backed by a sharp portfolio
• Native, demonstrated use of AI tools in day-to-day design work (e.g., generative UI, prototyping, research synthesis)
• 0–7 years of professional or freelance experience in UI/UX or product design
• Portfolio evidence of product thinking: user flows, interface design, design systems, and interaction patterns
• Fluent use of AI tools as part of the workflow—what matters is how you work, not only what you produced
• Experience with (or exposure to) design systems, component libraries, and engineering handoff

Nice to Haves / Additional Signals

• Comfortable working with an agency/startup-style environment (implied by agency/startup exposure requirement)

Location / Work Model

• Remote, but Los Angeles based
• In-person studio gatherings in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York on a monthly basis
