UI/ UX Designer

Role Overview

UI/UX Designer to join a remote team on a large-scale project. You will apply Human-Centered Design (HCD) to create and improve user-centric applications with a strong focus on usability, accessibility, and high availability.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product teams to define requirements, objectives, and user needs
• Lead and participate in user research (interviews, surveys, testing) and usability testing
• Translate complex processes and workflows into intuitive, easy-to-navigate interfaces
• Create wireframes, prototypes, and mockups to communicate design concepts
• Design fully accessible applications adhering to VA Digital Service guidelines and USWDS
• Provide UX guidance to ensure alignment with HCD principles and accessibility standards
• Document design activities and research insights for project continuity
• Support additional tasks to meet project deliverables

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, HCI, or related field
• Proven UI/UX experience with a strong portfolio
• Experience applying HCD and conducting user research methodologies
• Ability to synthesize research findings into actionable design improvements
• Strong documentation skills (questions, methodology, insights)
• Proficiency with Figma and Axure
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (Section 508) and best practices
• Knowledge of Design Systems and design tokens
• Experience working in Agile environments with iterative feedback

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience working specifically with US Web Design System (USWDS) and VA Digital Service guidelines
