About the role

Role overview

You will join Niyam IT to support federal client projects as a UI/UX Designer. The role is full-time and focuses on designing intuitive, user-centered interfaces for both legacy and modernized systems, working with cross-functional teams to deliver accessible, scalable design solutions aligned to mission objectives.

Work model / location

  • Hybrid arrangement in Ashburn, VA
  • In office once per week

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a core member of Agile/Scrum teams, delivering iterative UI/UX design solutions
  • Conceptualize, design, and refine user-centered interfaces across multiple software applications (legacy and modernized)
  • Establish and maintain consistent look-and-feel, style guides, and standardized UI components
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, product owners, developers, and business analysts to translate requirements into effective designs
  • Advocate for UX best practices and accessibility standards
  • Apply user research insights to inform design decisions
  • Develop design strategies and mentor junior designers

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Interactive Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Human Factors, or similar)
  • 7+ years of professional UI/UX, visual, or interaction design experience
  • Proficiency with enterprise design tools, Figma preferred (also acceptable: Axure, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar)
  • Experience designing responsive web applications that are intuitive and accessible across devices
  • Strong understanding of design trade-offs, technical constraints, and maintainability
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively

Nice to have

  • Strong leadership capabilities (e.g., mentoring/design strategy ownership)
