About the role

Role Overview

UI/UX Designer / Frontend Developer to support the Enterprise Management & Control (EM&C) system for a mission-critical DoD Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Enterprise. The role is remote and focuses on driving user-centered design from concept through implementation in a secure DoD environment.

Responsibilities

Design modern, responsive web interfaces for secure DoD applications.
Conduct user research, stakeholder interviews, and usability testing to validate design decisions.
Create wireframes, mockups, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs.
Collaborate with frontend engineers to translate designs into implementable components and maintain design consistency.
Develop and maintain design systems, style guides, and component libraries aligned with security and accessibility standards.
Ensure compliance with Section 508 / WCAG accessibility and DoD security constraints.
Present designs to stakeholders and participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, reviews, demos).
When needed, assist with implementing frontend components to match the design system.

Requirements

U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance.
3+ years of UI/UX design experience for web applications or enterprise software.
Strong end-to-end portfolio (problem framing, research insights, and final UI deliverables).
Proficiency with modern design tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, etc.).
Understanding of responsive design and user-centered design methodologies.
Experience working in Agile environments and with cross-functional teams.
Proficiency with JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
Excellent communication, storytelling, and interpersonal skills.

Preferences

Experience with government/defense software, especially SATCOM or C2ISR platforms.
Experience with HTML5/CSS3/TypeScript and integrating with RESTful APIs.
Familiarity with development/management tools (Git/GitHub, Nexus, Eclipse).
Experience with UI frameworks such as Vue3, Angular, or React.
Knowledge of design systems (e.g., Material Design, Carbon Design System).
Experience conducting usability testing and accessibility audits.
Understanding of frontend development principles and constraints of secure web environments.
