About the role
Role Overview
UI/UX Software Engineer (Individual Contributor) building and enhancing front-end experiences for laboratory and operational workflows. You will design, prototype, and deliver production-quality UI features for applications including Precision LIMS, Lab ePortal, Logistics ControlTower, and related custom systems.
Responsibilities
UI/UX Design & Front-End Development
- Build and enhance user interfaces across Precision for Medicine’s translational science applications.
- Create rapid prototypes using Figma and Figma Make (AI-assisted prototyping), then iterate based on stakeholder and user feedback.
- Translate wireframes/prototypes into clean, responsive, accessible, maintainable front-end code.
- Apply and extend established design patterns and style guidelines for consistency across products.
- Use AI-assisted capabilities (e.g., auto-layout, code generation, pattern library creation, component refactoring) to improve UI quality and development speed.
Production Support & Collaboration
- Troubleshoot and resolve UI-related issues in production.
- Partner with support teams to diagnose issues and ensure timely fixes.
- Support user acceptance testing (UAT) for UI enhancements and new features.
Third-Party UI Component Ownership
- Own and optimize Handsontable (embedded spreadsheet UI) and other third-party components.
- Keep components up-to-date, configured effectively, thoroughly tested, and maintained within a validated environment.
- Evaluate updates/configuration options to maximize usability and performance.
- Use AI tools to assist with refactoring/optimization/validation, including accessibility and performance checks.
Requirements
- Strong UI/UX sensibilities and user-centered design mindset.
- Solid front-end engineering skills to deliver production-quality features from prototypes.
- Experience building rapid prototypes and iterating based on feedback.
- Strong attention to detail and clear communication/collaboration.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with AI-assisted design/prototyping (especially Figma Make).
- Experience administering/maintaining validated third-party UI components, particularly Handsontable.
