About the role
Role Overview
The Transportation Analyst supports transportation planning, daily shipment execution, customer service, and transportation performance reporting across the network. The role combines analytical problem-solving with service-oriented communication to improve shipment visibility, monitor on-time performance, manage exceptions, and drive timely follow-up with carriers and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Transportation planning support: Review shipment demand, routing requirements, carrier capacity, delivery schedules, and operational constraints.
- Shipment execution monitoring: Use track-and-trace to provide updates on status, delivery expectations, appointment changes, and potential service risks.
- Customer service & issue resolution: Respond to transportation inquiries, resolve shipment issues, and coordinate follow-up on exceptions with carriers and internal stakeholders.
- KPI tracking & reporting: Measure and report metrics such as:
- On-time pickup and on-time delivery
- Appointment adherence and shipment visibility
- Exception resolution time and carrier response time
- Service issue trends
- On-time performance analysis: Investigate delays, missed appointments, late deliveries, identify root causes, and recommend improvements.
- Transportation data analysis: Identify trends, cost impacts, service gaps, and network inefficiencies; propose improvements to planning and carrier performance.
- Cross-functional partnership: Work with Transportation, Planning, Logistics, Operations, Sales, Customer Service, and carriers to support daily execution and continuous improvement.
- Data governance: Request, validate, and maintain accurate shipment/carrier/transportation data; check for inconsistencies, missing info, and documentation gaps.
- Support business cases and budgeting: Provide transportation data, KPI insights, and performance analysis for savings projections and operating budgets.
- Process improvement: Identify process gaps, recommend improvements, and help standardize reporting and communication processes.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in Supply Chain/Transportation Analysis in CPG, Food & Beverage, or Third-Party Logistics.
- Strong understanding of North American transportation including:
- Dedicated/private fleet
- TL and LTL (domestic and cross border)
- Intermodal
- Advanced working knowledge of Micros (truncated in posting; likely Microsoft tools/BI).
Nice-to-haves (implied)
- Experience using transportation analytics/reporting tools and working with carrier performance and track-and-trace processes.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across operations and carrier partners.
