Test Software Engineer

Role Overview

Test Software Engineer responsible for building and running automated test plans and suites to ensure software functionality, performance, and reliability. You will develop testing tools and frameworks, analyze results, and collaborate with development to drive defect resolution.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive automated test plans, test cases, and regression automation.
• Maintain and extend existing automation frameworks and test libraries.
• Create specialized test tools to augment QA and development testing.
• Build automated tests for application functionality and performance/load validation.
• Perform whitebox testing and improve code coverage.
• Develop detailed test plans, specifications, test cases, and test data sets for functional, performance, and load requirements.
• Analyze test results and work with developers to identify, document, and report root causes of failures via the defect tracking system.
• Participate in the product development lifecycle (requirements analysis and design through testing and rollout).
• Contribute to code reviews, inspections, and walkthroughs.
• Support User Acceptance Test (UAT) readiness planning and test procedures.
• Collect test engineering metrics and provide status reports to line and project management.
• Make recommendations to improve product reliability, performance, QA best practices, and processes.
• Stay current with new technologies and introduce applicable improvements.
• Mentor QA specialists and other staff on QA practices, automation, and basic load/performance testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or related) or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience testing mid-sized to large enterprise applications.
• Experience reviewing functional and design specifications and designing test processes/test cases.
• Understanding of software testing methodologies.
• Programming experience in one or more: Java, C#, JavaScript, jQuery.
• Proficient with SQL.
• Experience creating Microsoft or NUnit unit tests.
• Strong attention to detail and desire for quality.
• Experience with testing tools such as: TestDirector/WinRunner, QuickTest Professional, LoadRunner/Performance Center, or jMeter.
• Experience with defect tracking tools.
• Familiarity with SDLC and QA processes/methodologies (including negative tests, functional tests, white/black box tests, automated and manual testing, regression testing, operational readiness tests).
• Ability to test multi-tier environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; disciplined delivery and deadline management.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of additional scripting/testing tools and advanced automation capabilities.
• Experience estimating testing work and operating effectively in large enterprise programs.
