About the role

Role overview

As a Test Engineer II at Mercury Insurance, you will independently design, execute, and maintain manual and automated tests to ensure high-quality software delivery. You’ll contribute to test planning, build detailed test cases, identify and track defects, and improve overall test coverage and automation effectiveness across applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute test cases based on complex requirements; run functional, integration, and regression testing to reduce production defects.
  • Perform manual and automated testing, including automating key functional/regression tests and improving efficiency and reusability of test scripts.
  • Document test cases, results, and bug reports with clear, reproducible steps; keep documentation up to date for medium-sized features.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with TPMs/engineers to clarify requirements and provide feedback from early versions through release; help ensure software meets expectations.
  • Facilitate and guide UAT activities.
  • Mentor TE team members (junior) on test design/execution and best practices.
  • Apply critical thinking/problem-solving to remove obstacles and coordinate with peers/developers to address issues without delays.
  • Review test cases for completeness, clarity, and alignment to requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze testing metrics (e.g., test coverage, defect density, execution time) and recommend process/test improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a related field (or equivalent education + experience).

Nice-to-haves

  • Deeper understanding of test engineering (TE) processes and ability to improve automation strategy and test coverage.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members.
