About the role

Role Overview

Mid-level Test Automation Engineer for the Health Data Management (HDM-VDIF) program. You will build and maintain scalable automated testing solutions across middleware, APIs, and data layers, partnering with developers, analysts, and functional testers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop automated tests in collaboration with software developers, analysts, and functional testers.
  • Create end-to-end test automation solutions with business customers and software developers; document issues and troubleshoot alongside peers.
  • Collaborate with QA leads and Test Engineers to define/evolve and promote enterprise test strategy.
  • Design and execute tests from user stories, covering functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Perform data validations using complex SQL and tools such as Query Analyzer and Redgate.
  • Build and maintain scalable automation frameworks for middleware, API, and data layers.
  • Plan and execute appropriate regression testing for change/release scope.
  • Provide testing estimates and meet project testing timelines.
  • Troubleshoot root causes with delivery teams and/or business partners.
  • Identify opportunities to improve test execution and delivery.
  • Stay current with testing/engineering trends and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience; Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Strong manual and automated testing skills, including:
    • Middleware experience with Java, Node.js, AWS
    • Selenium, TestNG, and Java scripting
  • Proficiency in Jira for test/defect management; familiarity with Rally and artifact repository tools.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 tools (e.g., Andi, JAWS reader).
  • AWS service familiarity: Step Functions, State Machines, Canary, CloudWatch Logs, Lambda.
  • Expertise in automation frameworks for APIs and data layers; experience with:
    • ReadyAPI/SoapUI
    • Groovy
    • CI/CD pipeline automation
    • performance, regression, and integration testing.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork; comfortable collaborating with developers in Agile environments.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or other health-related organizations.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a multi-stakeholder Agile and DevSecOps environment.
