Technical Program Manager - Automation & Robotics (REMOTE)

Role Overview

The Technical Program Manager – Automation & Robotics will report to the Director of Robotics and Automation and help BJ’s increase warehouse supply chain capacity in a growth environment. The role drives down overall supply chain cost by improving efficiency through robotics, automation, and WMS/TMS and warehouse control system integration.

Responsibilities

• Execute the robotics and automation business plan with the Director, adapting to evolving people, market technology, and company objectives.
• Implement warehouse robotics and automation to improve:
  • Labor productivity
  • Space utilization
  • Order picking/packing accuracy and throughput
• Lead automation initiatives for warehouse operational tasks such as:
  • Pallet sortation
  • Pallet load/unload
  • Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs)
  • Custom pallet build for in-store and B2B receipt
• Maximize investment impact in WMS and TMS; investigate technology bolt-ons to meet growing demand efficiently.
• Implement and use warehouse control and execution systems.
• In Omni operations, collaborate cross-functionally to lower order fulfillment cost, including optimizing in-club picking/packing processes.
• Analyze and support adoption of micro-fulfillment to increase speed/agility/responsiveness while reducing cost.
• Integrate B2B sales systems and in-club processes, including new facility types to optimize order flows and staging/labor utilization.
• Develop detailed work instructions and train TM’s and teams to operate and maintain automated manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Define, oversee, and commission automation system implementations.
• Manage, schedule, and budget assigned projects.
• Partner with Learning & Development (L&D) and facility engineers to deliver robotics training for deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
• Provide technical guidance through design choices and concept design/architecture reviews; drive continuous improvement.
• Connect technical plans to measurable outcomes aligned to business/innovation goals; manage risks across people, process, and technology.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment working directly with emerging technologies, specifically Robotics.
• Experience building and running a transformation program/pipeline.
• Automation solution experience for warehouse applications.
• Proficiency using OEE metrics to monitor and improve automation equipment.
• Ability to define automation KPIs and dashboards for Operations and Support teams.
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, a relevant engineering degree, or mathematics.
• Experience with Warehouse & Transportation Management Systems (WMS/TMS) and Warehouse Control & Execution systems.
• Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office and comfort working with IT systems.
