Role overview
Oura is seeking a Staff System Engineering Program Manager to join the global Hardware PMO team. The role coordinates cross-functional hardware engineering work (electrical, mechanical, firmware, system test, and compliance) and drives program milestones from early prototype through manufacturing readiness.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead hardware engineering workstreams across electrical, mechanical, firmware, system test, and hardware compliance.
- Define and track team-level milestones and deliverables aligned to program targets; identify critical path and dependencies across engineering and with teams such as Product, Industrial Design, Science, Software, and Supply Chain.
- Scope and communicate program-level milestones, including launch targets.
- Provide program reporting and intake strategic guidance from hardware engineering leadership.
- Collaborate with PMO colleagues and program leaders globally.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues/obstacles impacting timelines; unblock teams and escalate when needed.
- Identify opportunities to accelerate delivery.
- Lead NPI build activities and ensure product maturity and launch readiness across Prototype, EVT, DVT, PVT builds and validations.
- Drive third-party execution against Statements of Work (when applicable).
- Contribute to BOM creation and technical specifications.
- Lead engineering risk analysis and mitigation planning.
- Plan program resourcing with hardware team leads.
- Oversee engineering change management.
- Advocate for program excellence (deliver on-time and in-scope), manage conflicts constructively, and promote open communication.
- Lead improvement projects and help refine existing hardware/product development processes.
- Mentor other team members.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience across the end-to-end product development process, including: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Firmware, System Test, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.
- Experience delivering complex products with new and/or challenging technology integration.
- Knowledge of standard workflows and dependencies within and across engineering disciplines (e.g., ID lock, board design & release, mechanical design and tooling start).
- Experience taking a complex product through NPI phases to scaled mass production, including leading factory builds (SMT and FATP).
- Experience with a phase-gate development model, including defining entry/exit criteria and maturity.
- Ability to structure and execute DOEs (Design of Experiments).
- Hands-on use of project management tools: Jira, Confluence, SmartSheet.
- Knowledge of project management best practices; PMP not required.
- Familiarity with PLM systems such as Teamcenter or Arena.
Nice-to-have / preferred working setup
- Located on the West Coast to support regular collaboration with San Francisco and San Diego teams (typically 1+ trip per month).
- Willingness to travel globally (including to contract manufacturers and other offices) as needed (up to ~25–30%).
