Staff Software Engineer (Subscription and Membership Platform)

Role Overview

Staff Software Engineer for Hims & Hers’ Subscription and Membership Platform. You will lead the design and architecture of scalable full-stack solutions that support patient retention, engagement, and satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and design of core subscription and membership systems, aligned with product requirements.
• Lead design/architecture of scalable full-stack solutions and ensure decisions scale across the organization.
• Partner with engineering teams across commerce, clinical care, pharmacy, and fulfillment on cross-functional technical initiatives.
• Provide mentorship on best practices, design patterns, and coding standards.
• Advocate for technical needs and influence platform decisions through clear, well-reasoned arguments.
• Optimize web/service metrics such as speed and reliability; proactively identify and mitigate risks.

Requirements

• 8+ years software engineering experience, including 2+ years in a Staff Engineer or equivalent senior leadership role.
• Strong front-end fundamentals: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and frameworks such as React, React Native, Next.js.
• Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript.
• Proven experience building platform infrastructure for customer/patient retention and engagement, preferably in AWS.
• Back-end proficiency with Spring, Java, Kotlin and PostgreSQL.
• Experience with workflows and platform tooling, including:
  • Temporal (workflows)
  • Datadog (monitoring)
  • Growthbook / Optimizely (experimentation)
  • CircleCI / GitHub Actions (CI/CD)
