Staff Software Engineer - Search & Maps - US (Remote)

Role Overview

Staff Software Engineer focused on Search & Maps (US Remote). You will be a technical leader shaping platform architecture, improving AI-powered product delivery, and raising engineering standards in a small, AI-augmented team.

What You’ll Do

• Own and scale a high-throughput search platform
  • Architect and drive performance for a real estate search system handling 1.5B+ monthly requests and hundreds of millions of listings.
  • Optimize for latency, relevance, and reliability across Kafka and Elasticsearch.
• Deliver a world-class home search experience
  • Build and evolve core home discovery across web and mobile.
  • Improve engagement, lead conversion, and agent workflows while maintaining fast, responsive interactions at scale.
• Build and evolve a reliable notifications platform
  • Own and extend a centralized system delivering tens of millions of emails per month plus SMS.
  • Ensure deliverability, reliability, and extensibility for product teams.
• Push forward AI-powered discovery experiences
  • Collaborate to integrate LLMs and intelligent ranking into search and user workflows to improve how buyers/agents discover, filter, and engage with listings.

Skills & Experience

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including time in senior/staff roles.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
• Experience designing and operating scalable microservices in cloud-native environments (AWS preferred).
• Strong understanding of GraphQL, event-driven systems (Kafka, SQS), and distributed databases (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch).
• Proven ability to lead high-impact initiatives from concept through production in a SaaS environment.
• Expert grasp of software design principles and multi-tenant platform architectures.
