Role overview

Staff Software Engineer on Orum’s Product Platform Team (fully remote). You will lead end-to-end delivery, set technical direction, and architect systems that power live calling workflows across backend services and modern web UIs.

Key missions

Architect, build, and evolve platform systems spanning backend services and modern web UI.
Lead system design for real-time, high-volume workflows; produce clear technical design docs.
Mentor and uplevel engineers through design reviews, pairing, and feedback; model engineering excellence and clarity.
Partner with Product and Design; use technical judgment to shape the roadmap.

Requirements

8+ years of professional software engineering experience with Staff-level scope (cross-team technical leadership, strategy, and delivery).
Deep expertise in distributed systems and real-time application patterns (e.g., WebSockets/streaming/PubSub) and performance optimization.
Proven ability to own features end-to-end (discovery → deployment → iteration).
Strong product mindset and communication; simplify complexity and connect technical decisions to user/business impact.
Expertise with TypeScript/Node.js and modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React), plus strong SQL fundamentals with an RDBMS like PostgreSQL.

Nice-to-haves

Experience in telephony / SIP softswitches (e.g., FreeSWITCH) or adjacent real-time/event-driven domains.
Familiarity with the stack: Node.js + TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, GCP, FreeSWITCH.
Cloud infrastructure experience with GCP/AWS/Azure and familiarity with CI/CD and progressive delivery practices.
