Staff Software Engineer, Product (Montevideo)

Role overview

Staff Software Engineer, Product (Montevideo) — a remote role for candidates located in Montevideo, Uruguay. You will serve as the engineering anchor for a product initiative, partnering closely with a PM and designer to shape the problem, choose the technical approach, and drive end-to-end delivery.

What you’ll do

• Own the full lifecycle for your initiative: problem framing, technical decisions, implementation, production shipping, and post-launch metric review.
• Set and own the technical approach including architecture, data model, integrations, rollout plan, observability, and rollback strategy.
• Ensure implementation quality for agent-authored code via:
  • prompts and conventions
  • guardrails
  • evals
  • tests and review loops
• Lead cross-functional partnership with:
  • PM (scope, tradeoffs)
  • designer (UX decisions, prototyping)
  • engineering peers across adjacent initiatives
• Deliver initiative outcomes measured by impact metrics (not lines of code).
• Write careful, hand-crafted code yourself when the area is sensitive.

Requirements

• Experience operating at staff-level autonomy: making most technical calls with architectural review on major decisions.
• Strong product engineering judgment: bring engineering judgment to product decisions and product sense to engineering decisions.
• Ability to maintain a high bar for:
  • production correctness
  • security
  • performance
  • observability
  • customer and pro experience

Nice-to-haves (implied by the role)

• Experience working with AI coding agents and building safe workflows (evals/guardrails/testing/observability).
