About the role

Role Overview

Join Sentry as a Staff Software Engineer (Platform). You’ll architect the future of Sentry’s platform, translate business and product strategy into scalable technical blueprints, and drive engineering excellence across the Platform organization.

Responsibilities

  • Architect the future of Sentry’s platform by converting business needs and product strategy into clear, scalable technical designs.
  • Lead cross-cutting initiatives across the Platform organization, owning them end-to-end and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Promote engineering excellence by mentoring platform engineers, sharing best practices, and raising standards for:
    • system design
    • scalability
    • operational quality
  • Collaborate broadly across the company and work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

  • 12+ years building large-scale distributed systems.
  • 3+ years in a technical architecture role (or equivalent leadership capacity).
  • Deep knowledge of modern infrastructure technologies, including:
    • Kubernetes
    • Terraform
    • Service Mesh
  • Ability to create production-quality proof-of-concept architectures and write high-quality code.
  • Proven track record leading cross-team, high-impact engineering projects.
  • 5+ years in cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS, GCP).
  • Experience with:
    • OLAP/OLTP databases
    • blob storage
    • caching
  • Strong communication skills; can explain complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring senior/staff-level engineers.

Nice to Have

  • Kafka and real-time streaming frameworks (e.g., Flink, Beam).
  • Enjoy designing/building platforms that help teams move faster and scale safely.
  • Comfortable making architectural decisions that influence long-term success, favoring simplicity over novelty.
