Staff Software Engineer - OCR / Text Extraction

Role Overview

Staff Full Stack Software Engineer focused on OCR and text extraction for next-generation document management systems. You’ll serve as a senior technical leader driving the design, architecture, and delivery of scalable, event-driven backend and frontend solutions used by a global customer base.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for the document content extraction and transformation team
• Lead architectural decisions for OCR-based workflows using Tesseract and Apryse OCR
• Design scalable, secure, and performant systems on AWS
• Improve scalability, performance, reliability, and manage cost controls without harming customer experience
• Drive evolution of the content extraction/transformation tech stack as needs scale
• Make critical trade-offs across UX, performance, security, and maintainability
• Design and implement event-driven architectures using AWS services, Kafka, and modern data pipelines
• Build production-grade applications across frontend and backend
• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering leadership to define system direction and integrate AI-driven services and event-based data pipelines
• Mentor engineers and guide teams toward technical excellence

Requirements

• Strong experience as a senior/full stack engineer with leadership in system design and architecture
• Proven ability to build production-ready applications at scale
• Expertise integrating OCR technologies (Tesseract and Apryse OCR mentioned)
• Experience designing event-driven and cloud-native platforms
• Ability to balance performance, reliability, security, user experience, and maintainability

Nice to Have

• Experience with AI-driven services and event-based data pipelines
• Demonstrated mentoring/technical leadership in engineering teams
