About the role

Role Overview

Join NewtonX as a Staff Software Engineer to build and scale applications used by global teams. You will lead department-wide technical initiatives, drive architecture and design decisions, and mentor teammates while shaping engineering processes.

Responsibilities

Own department-wide technical initiatives and lead end-to-end technical projects
Build Python/Django REST APIs and backend services
Lead development of React-based UIs, focusing on performance, scalability, and usability
Collaborate on architecture, design decisions, and technology/tooling choices
Apply and promote best practices across the team
Mentor teammates and help evolve engineering processes

Required Profile / Skills

Deep expertise in Python/Django (backend) and React (frontend)
5+ years full-stack engineering experience, including 3+ years leading projects end-to-end
Strong JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, HTML, and CSS/SCSS
Experience owning scalable systems, including concerns like:
- race conditions
- idempotency
- backpressure
Strong Django expertise, including Django + Django REST Framework and designing/consuming REST APIs
Testing mindset: unit + integration testing with Jest/React Testing Library and pytest/unittest
Strong SQL and relational databases, especially PostgreSQL
Modern React skills: hooks, Context API, reusable component libraries

Nice-to-haves (from the posting)

3+ years at Senior level owning technical projects end-to-end
Cloud/infra: GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform
Messaging/queueing: Pub/Sub, Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS
SOLID design principles
Responsive UI: Material-UI, Bootstrap, or Tailwind
State management: Redux, Zustand, Thunk
