About the role

Role Overview

Headspace is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Mobile for its B2B engineering organization. In this technical leadership role, you will own the design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-quality mobile systems and features that integrate with backend services and enable deeply personalized mental health experiences.

Responsibilities

Lead complex, multi-squad projects end-to-end to “own the outcome,” collaborating with product, design, and data.
Architect and build scalable mobile services for enrollment and content experience features, shaping technical strategy for maintainability and mission impact.
Define mobile platform patterns across:
- Server-driven UI
- Configurable experiences
- Observability
- Experimentation
Shape the architectural vision for the Headspace mobile app through:
- RFCs
- rigorous code reviews
- clear documentation
- continuous process improvements
Make impactful cross-functional technical decisions (“Connect with Courage”) and run challenging conversations with clarity.
Mentor engineers and establish yourself as a recognized technical leader.
Ensure system quality using unit tests and end-to-end testing, proactively covering edge cases for reliability, robustness, and usability.
Stay current on industry trends, including emerging technologies and AI-assisted development tools, to improve efficiency and product quality.

Requirements

7+ years delivering production mobile applications, including leading complex cross-functional projects from design through release.
4+ years with native Android and/or iOS development.
2+ years hands-on experience with Flutter, including strong knowledge of its frameworks, third-party libraries, and APIs.
Strong mobile architecture and design patterns experience (MVC, MVVM).
Proven experience implementing unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools and workflows to increase efficiency and quality.
Ability to make pragmatic technical decisions, balancing product needs with long-term strategy and trade-offs.

Nice-to-Haves
