Staff Software Engineer (Issue Workflow)

Role overview

Join Sentry as a Staff Software Engineer (Issue Workflow) on the Issue Workflow team. You’ll architect systems that power Sentry’s core product surface, converting billions of events daily into developer-facing insights.

Responsibilities

• Architect high-scale distributed systems powering the issue workflow experience.
• Drive technical strategy and roadmap: make key decisions on architecture, technology choices, and managing technical debt.
• Mentor and elevate engineers, strengthening skills in systems design, coding practices, and product thinking.
• Ensure strong product quality and user experience while handling performance, scalability, and reliability challenges.
• Collaborate with Product and Design to shape better outcomes and communicate technical constraints in user-centric terms.

Requirements

• Staff-level full-stack instincts with a backend-heavy focus; understand the end-to-end system from data ingestion to what renders in the browser.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and designing for failure (e.g., eventual consistency, partitioning, caching, and query optimization).
• 10+ years of full-stack software engineering experience (ideally Python and TypeScript).
• Expertise in domain modeling, distributed systems, data stores, and message queues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, and Kafka.
