Staff Software Engineer, iOS (Mobile Engineering)
Remote eligible. You will help build and evolve The RealReal’s iOS platform and internal mobile tools, driving the technical direction and architecture of the mobile ecosystem. You’ll collaborate with Product, Design, Backend, and other mobile engineers to deliver scalable, performant, and maintainable mobile experiences.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and architecture of the iOS platform (scalability, reliability, long-term maintainability)
- Lead advanced iOS feature development using Swift and SwiftUI
- Drive platform modernization, including:
- modularization
- Swift Concurrency (async/await)
- adoption of modern iOS architectural patterns
- Define and enforce mobile engineering standards (architecture guidelines, coding conventions, testing strategy, documentation, best practices)
- Improve engineering velocity and developer experience via CI/CD automation, build optimization, and tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, Fastlane)
- Establish/expand automated testing strategy (unit, UI, snapshot testing, performance monitoring)
- Collaborate with backend/infrastructure teams to design and integrate scalable APIs and distributed systems using GraphQL and REST
- Work with Product, Design, Data Science, and Analytics to deliver data-driven/AI-powered experiences (personalization, intelligent search, experimentation, recommendations)
- Evolve mobile architecture and design systems (reusable components, consistent UX)
- Improve observability/monitoring and performance optimization for reliability at scale
- Build for iPhone and iPad form factors while maintaining strong accessibility/ADA compliance
- Mentor engineers and contribute to process improvements and adoption of modern mobile practices
Requirements
- 7+ years professional software engineering experience
- 5+ years dedicated to iOS development
- Experience owning end-to-end features in agile or startup-like environments
- Deep expertise in modern iOS development (text truncated in posting)
