Staff Software Engineer

Role Overview

Staff Software Engineer — Foundational Frontend Engineer Join a rapidly growing cybersecurity startup (Series A) as the first frontend hire. You’ll build the entire frontend platform from scratch, setting the architecture, design system, and developer experience for the team.

What You’ll Do

• Own the frontend platform end-to-end: define architecture, frameworks, and tooling for engineers who come after you.
• Build the core design system and reusable component libraries.
• Create the state management layer and APIs that standardize how the team ships product.
• Partner with design and product to turn complex security workflows into simple, high-speed, flexible interfaces (initially prioritizing velocity over polish).
• Deliver high-impact features that integrate AI-powered capabilities, focusing on clarity, usability, and reliability.
• Establish testing, performance, and maintainability practices to keep the codebase production-ready as the team scales.
• As the first frontend hire, set the bar for technical excellence and mentor future engineers into the engineering culture.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience building foundations at an early-stage company or new product line (not just extending existing systems).
• Have operated at Staff+ level (Staff, Senior Staff, or Principal).
• Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern build tooling / web application architecture.
• Strong frontend infrastructure background: component libraries, build systems, state management, and performance optimization.
• Systems-thinking mindset: enjoy creating abstractions and infrastructure that improve engineering throughput.
• Pragmatic execution: balance architecture for scale with shipping working solutions quickly.
• Strong engineering craftsmanship: code quality, attention to detail, and thoughtful design.

• Remote-friendly with offices in San Francisco and New York.
