About the role

Role Overview

Join Grafana Labs as a Staff Software Engineer to establish and scale a culture of engineering excellence across teams. You’ll drive mature DevOps/SRE practices, build reliability frameworks, and improve visibility into system health. As the foundation matures, you may expand into broader application and product development leadership.

Key Missions / Responsibilities

Cross-team engineering excellence: set standards and guide adoption of strong DevOps/SRE practices.
DevOps/SRE execution: improve incident response and post-incident reviews (PIRs), ensure on-call readiness, maintain runbooks, strengthen alerting, observability, and release/change management.
Reliability & system health visibility: define and report operational metrics, guide design/development/operation of large-scale, distributed cloud systems.

Requirements

Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems.
Ability to influence engineering practices via technical communication, reviews, and collaboration.
Strong reliability engineering fundamentals (incident management, observability, failure modes).
Strong DevOps/SRE experience operating and evolving production systems at scale.
Strong programming background in a modern language (Python and Go are primary).
Familiarity with modern software delivery processes.
Experience with test automation, including performance and functional testing.
Strong interpersonal skills working effectively across teams.
Familiarity with observability tooling/platforms (e.g., the Grafana stack).
Experience with containerized and cloud-native systems (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS).
Experience working with Python/Go, plus familiarity with JavaScript and/or Jsonnet.
Experience building/operating event-driven or asynchronous systems.
Experience defining/applying SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, or reliability metrics.
Interest in building testing frameworks or developer tooling.
