Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack

Role Overview

Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack) — senior technical leader and trusted individual contributor with high autonomy. You will set technical direction across projects, influence engineering decisions, and partner with stakeholders to deliver high-quality software.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute technical roadmaps for new initiatives with minimal oversight
• Participate in strategic planning with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders
• Break down complex, ambiguous product problems into actionable technical solutions
• Reduce technical debt via documentation, refactoring, and automated testing
• Communicate architecture, technical decisions, project history, and tradeoffs for demos, proposals, and customer engagements
• Support hiring by participating in technical interviews and evaluating candidates
• Present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Champion engineering best practices and drive improvements across teams
• Occasionally travel to collaborate and present to clients/partners

Requirements

• B.S. degree with 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, or 10+ years experience without a degree
• Expert-level experience building applications with Ruby on Rails
• Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
• Experience with React, Redux, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
• Experience responding to and triaging production issues
• Expert-level knowledge in at least one area (frontend, backend, or infrastructure) with ability to independently lead technical initiatives
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Public Trust security clearance
