About the role

Role Overview

Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack) at Ad Hoc LLC. You’ll be a senior technical leader and trusted individual contributor with significant autonomy, helping set technical direction and deliver high-quality software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute technical roadmaps for new initiatives with minimal oversight
  • Participate in strategic planning with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders
  • Occasionally travel to collaborate with and present to clients/project partners
  • Break down ambiguous product problems into actionable technical solutions
  • Reduce technical debt via documentation, refactoring, and automated testing
  • Communicate architecture, technical decisions, project history, and tradeoffs for proposals/demos
  • Support hiring by participating in technical interviews and evaluating candidates
  • Present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Champion engineering best practices and influence improvements across teams

Requirements (Basic Qualifications)

  • BS degree and 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, or 10+ years without a degree
  • Expert experience developing applications with Ruby on Rails
  • Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
  • Experience with React, Redux, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience responding to and triaging production issues
  • Expert-level knowledge in at least one discipline (frontend, backend, or infrastructure) with ability to independently lead initiatives
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Public Trust security clearance

Nice to Haves

  • Experience across frontend, backend, and/or infrastructure engineering (implied by “expert-level knowledge in at least one discipline”)
