About the role
Role Overview
Join Affirm as a Staff Software Engineer / Technical Lead (Full-Stack, Account Management). You’ll be the team’s consistent technical owner—setting technical direction, making architecture and rollout tradeoffs, and ensuring operational readiness.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction and own architecture/rollout tradeoff decisions.
- Lead designs for agentic workflows and Self Service Account Management features.
- Reduce coupling across event-driven integrations.
- Codify patterns and guardrails for safe, auditable, scalable self-service account updates.
- Drive engineering quality by unblocking senior engineers, raising standards through rigorous design and code review.
- Coordinate and enable cross-team delivery across the product development lifecycle.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- Proficiency building web apps using declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with a global engineering team.
- Deep technical judgment; comfortable moving between low-level implementation details and large-system architecture.
- Proficient in designing/developing/scaling backend systems with Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Experience delivering major features/system components and planning technical execution (including deprecations).
- Write high-quality, maintainable code that others can easily understand and use.
Nice-to-haves
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguity and iterate based on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
