Role overview

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Frontend (Consumer - Advanced Trading) to lead the front-end technical strategy for Coinbase Advanced. The role focuses on improving performance across web and mobile clients, delivering a low-latency interface for experienced traders, and mentoring a growing engineering team.

What you’ll be doing

Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to define and execute a technical roadmap for a reliable, scalable trading platform
Lead delivery of a low-latency trading interface across all platforms (web and mobile)
Provide technical guidance and career mentorship to engineers
Anchor complex projects, ensuring high code quality and strong system design

What we look for

8+ years of software engineering experience, with emphasis on modern front-end frameworks and mobile environments
Proven experience optimizing complex systems, especially:
- Rendering performance
- Network efficiency
- State management
Demonstrated leadership, including mentoring senior engineers and driving organizational improvements
Strong communication skills to translate technical challenges into actionable plans for stakeholders

Nice to have

Experience through rapid team growth (e.g., ~10 to 100s of engineers)
Experience building low-latency trading systems
Experience with blockchains (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum)
Experience decomposing a monolith into microservices
Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres
Crypto-forward experience such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, and dApps
