Role overview

Staff Software Engineer, Frontend for Advanced Trading on the Consumer & Business team at Coinbase. You will lead the front-end technical strategy for Coinbase Advanced, the trading platform for experienced traders, with a focus on performance, reliability, and scalability across web and mobile.

Responsibilities

• Own the front-end technical roadmap for Coinbase Advanced; define architecture decisions for a reliable, scalable trading platform across web and mobile.
• Drive measurable performance improvements across:
  • Rendering optimization
  • Network efficiency
  • State management
  • Deliver a low-latency trading experience
• Lead complex multi-quarter technical initiatives end-to-end, enforcing high standards for:
  • code quality
  • system design
  • engineering rigor
• Strengthen the engineering team through hands-on mentorship of senior engineers and elevate technical decision-making.
• Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to translate business priorities into actionable plans and ship high-impact features.
• Establish scalable front-end engineering practices and patterns (conventions that increase velocity as the team grows).

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in modern front-end frameworks such as React, React Native, or equivalent.
• Proven ability to optimize complex UI systems for performance (rendering, network efficiency, state management) at scale.
• Experience leading technical strategy: architecture decisions, trade-off analysis, and cross-team alignment for multi-quarter initiatives.
• Demonstrated success mentoring senior engineers and improving team engineering standards and delivery velocity.
• Familiarity with high-availability, low-latency systems (trading platforms, financial systems, or real-time data applications preferred).
• Use generative AI responsibly, with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

• Target annual base salary range (depending on work location): $218,025 – $256,500 USD (bonus eligibility and benefits may apply).
