Role Overview

Staff Software Engineer (Front-end focus), Marketplace team at NerdWallet. This is a true full-stack, hands-on technical leadership role where you both set direction and build high-quality, high-performance web experiences for high-traffic marketplace shopping journeys.

Responsibilities

• Shape the future of NerdWallet’s web shopping experiences by improving performance, SEO, and user engagement.
• Partner with product, SEO, and paid marketing teams to run experiments, measure impact, and iterate quickly.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership to influence the engineering roadmap and drive architectural projects balancing speed, scalability, and maintainability.
• Drive technical initiatives across performance, observability, scalability, security, and developer experience.
• Contribute to platform stability and resilience via monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident management.
• Maintain high technical standards through code reviews, modernization efforts, testing, and adherence to engineering best practices.
• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with strong full-stack development and distributed systems background.
• Expertise in TypeScript, React, and Node.js (experience with additional modern languages is a plus).
• Strong ability to build performant web experiences and design scalable back-end systems.
• Experience working on systems that enable personalization and data-driven decision-making.
• Comfortable with modern engineering practices and using AI tools to move fast while maintaining quality.
• Strong focus on Core Web Vitals (CWV) and technical SEO, as well as back-end APIs and funnel experiences.

Nice to Have

• Experience with additional modern languages and broader platform work, including observability/security/developer experience improvements.
